What exactly are angels?
It's a question for which there is no single answer, and perhaps that's precisely why angels have endured for so long.
Angels appear in religion, spirituality, and art.
From ancient stories to modern angel art, angel illustrations, and angel art prints for your wall.
There's something about them that's hard to grasp.
Something mysterious. Something invisible, yet palpable.
Angels in religion, meaning and role of angels
In religious traditions, angels are seen as messengers.
Beings that move between heaven and earth, with a clear task. They convey messages, protect or guide, and often appear only when needed.
For example, there's the well-known story from the Bible where the archangel Gabriel appears to Mary to announce the birth of Jesus.
The idea of a guardian angel, an angel who watches over you, also comes from here.
And in stories about Michael, you see the angel as a protector and warrior, someone who thwarts evil.
In this sense, angels are clear:
they have a task, a role, a mission.
Angels in spirituality, feeling and experiencing angels
In spirituality, that image shifts.
Angels are seen less as physical beings and more as a form of energy or presence. Not something you see, but something you feel.
Many people recognize moments when a sudden calm comes over them.
As if "something" is momentarily carrying you.
Or when you think of someone, and they contact you at that exact moment.
For some, that feels like a sign or guidance.
Even after loss, people often speak of a presence.
Not visible, but palpable.
Here, angels are not figures, but experiences.
Moments you cannot prove, but can feel.
Angels as symbols, meaning in art and feeling
There is also a more pragmatic way of looking at angels.
In this view, angels are symbols.
Images we use to give meaning to what we feel.
You see that reflected in everyday life:
a necklace with an angel as a symbol of protection, a tattoo,
an angel artwork on the wall that resonates,
or a child who has an imaginary guardian angel.
In this form, angels are a way to make emotions visible.
To give shape to comfort, protection, and hope.
What do angels have in common?
Whether you look at religion, spirituality, or symbolism,
the core remains the same.
Angels stand for:
- Protection
- Gentleness
- Hope
- Something that feels bigger than yourself

My work is created precisely at that intersection.
I also believe that there is "something".
Not something you can prove, but something you feel.
As a child, I was fascinated by fairy tales.
Those worlds where light and dark coexist, and where emotion becomes visible in imagery.

My angels are not religious figures.
But neither are they just symbols.
They move in between.
In my work, you therefore see contrast:
